At this year's ARO in Baltimore (USA) we presented the following works:
1) Perceptual Differences Between Monopolar and Phantom Electrode Stimulation by Silke Klawitter in collaboration with David Landsberger from EarLab, New York University, USA. 2) Contralateral Efferent Suppression of Human Hearing Sensitivity in Single-sided Deaf Cochlear Implant Users by Waldo Nogueira in collaboration with Enrique Lopez-Poveda, Unviersity of Salamanca, Spain. Moreover Waldo Nogueira contributed with a mentoring session on How to Write Grants. Waldo Nogueira gave a talk on: Signal Processing in Cochlear Implants: State of the Art and Future Directions during the Telecomunications Seminar organized by Prof. Tim Fingscheidt at the TU Braunschweig.
Tom Gajecki and Waldo Nogueira presented the work "Development of a Sound Coding Strategy based on a Deep Recurrent Neural Network for Monaural Source Separation in Cochlear Implants" at the ITG 2016 Speech Communication in Padeborn, Germany. This work proposes a cochlear implant sound coding strategy arquitecture based on a deep recurrent neural network (DRNN) to enhance a target speaker in the presence of a competing voice. The algorithm has been evaluated in normal hearing listeners using a VoCoder and cochlear implant users. it seems that the algorithm provides larger improvements in sppech intelligibility for normal hearing listenersthan for cochlear implant users. The hypothesis to explain these contradictory results may be that cochlear implant users are more sensitive to the distortions introduced by the DRNN in the target signal than normal hearing listerns using the VoCoder.

The APG contributed to the CAL symposium with a tutorial on audio signal processing by Waldo Nogueira and two Posters (Electro-Acoustic Interactions by Benjamin Krüger) and (Simultaneous stimulation strategies by Florian Langner).
The second ECCOMAS thematic conference on Biomedical Engineering will be held from 28th to 30nd of October 2015 in Hannover. The APG contributed with two presentations on: "Individualized Cochlear Implant Modeling based on Patient Specific Anatomy of the Cochlea W Würfel, H Lanfermann, T Lenarz and W Nogueira" and Development of a Model of the Electrically Stimulated Auditory Nerve W Nogueira, W Würfel, A Büchner and G Ashida.
The conference on implantable auditory prostheses (CIAP) was held in Lake Tahoe, California in July 2015. The APG contributed with 4 posters which are listed below:
1) Loudness and Pitch Perception with Dynamicall Compensated Virtual Channels. This work is a collaboration with David Landsberger (NYU) and Advanced Bionics (Leonid Litvak and co-workers) 2) Spectral Contrast Enhancement Improves Speech Intelligibility in Noise (Thilo Rode, Andreas Büchner and Waldo Nogueira) 3) The TPACE strategy, Eugen Kludt, (Waldo Nogueira and Andreas Büchner) 4) An Individualized Model of Speech Intelligibility for Cochlear Implants: This work is a collaborative project with Tim Jürgens from the University of Oldenburg. I had a talk at the International Symposium in Heairng (ISH) 2015: "Optimization of a Spectral Contrast Enhancement Algorithm for Cochlear Implants based on a Vowel Identification Model".
